Paying for media Redux

"The Daily Show" last Monday (13/10/09) took a humorous but pointed look at how CNN handles many stories. The segment rang true for me and underscored perfectly why I no longer watch CNN with the sound on....and haven't for close to a decade now. More or less since founder Ted Turner stopped leading it.

Chopping off the health care issue to switch to the 5yo miming a brief scene from a movie summed up perfectly why so much media output these days is utter drivel. The epic fail between the two female presenters on whether health care facts are checked highlight how lightweight-by-design their coverage is.

This is against the background of many media outlets wondering how to make a living given few people want to pay for what they produce.

The answer is obvious enough: Almost all the time they produce garbage no one in their right mind would pay for...and which represents a waste of time even when viewed for free.
