Xmas Files: Mall madness

09:00am: Trade Aid Takapuna - Found *exactly* what we wanted. Secured the goodies in mere minutes and headed for.....the mall.

10:00am Glenfield Mall - crawled around for 10 minutes looking for a car park. We got inside and found no more people than usual if this were a weekend day, so wondering where they all went? I didn't go near the Warehouse or the supermarkets (Countdown and Foodtown), so maybe that's where they all were.

11:15am - Crossed Northern Motorway on Sunset, traffic visibly congested in both directions around exits to the local malls.

Merry Xmas! ....and spare a thought for those less fortunate than yourself in the days ahead. Not everyone will be having a happy New Year. Let's do what we can to help.

National + ACT Government? So what?

Don't let the spectre of TABOR sinking lids on government funding get you down.

Never mind the huge deficits we'll be running to "pay" for tax cuts....which we will then have to re-pay (with interest).

Who cares if the yellow-blue crony-crats shovel hundreds of millions into the non-transparent pockets of their mates via "commercially sensitive" PPPs who will cut the services, charge higher fees and cost more overall!

Yeah....Barack Obama may think the evidence of climate change is beyond dispute, but John Key and Rodney Hide know better.

So public transport in Auckland may remain a fragmented, incoherent, inadequate mish-mash of private operator....and?

Always look on the bright side of life!

Delicious irony

Someone at TV3 was having a long day by the time they posted this story about a certain party leader's activities on the final day of the election campaign.

It's all my fault....

Though in my defence, I'd have to say that I would vote if they would let me. (It plays here when about 15% is loaded....or click through to the page to see it more quickly).

Latest spam more desperate than usual

From: Minister of the Treasury Paulson

Subject: REQUEST FOR URGENT CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP

Dear American:

I need to ask you to support an urgent secret business relationship
with a transfer of funds of great magnitude.

I am Ministry of the Treasury of the Republic of America. My country
has had crisis that has caused the need for large transfer of funds of
700 billion dollars US. If you would assist me in this transfer, it
would be most profitable to you.

I am working with Mr. Phil Gram, lobbyist for UBS, who will be my
replacement as Ministry of the Treasury in January. As a Senator, you
may know him as the leader of the American banking deregulation
movement in the 1990s. This transactin is 100% safe.

This is a matter of great urgency. We need a blank check. We need
the funds as quickly as possible. We cannot directly transfer these
funds in the names of our close friends because we are constantly
under surveillance. My family lawyer advised me that I should look for
a reliable and trustworthy person who will act as a next of kin so the
funds can be transferred.

Please reply with all of your bank account, IRA and college fund
account numbers and those of your children and grandchildren to
wallstreetbailout@treasury.gov so that we may transfer your commission
for this transaction. After I receive that information, I may or may not
respond with detailed information about safeguards that will be used
to protect the funds.

Yours Faithfully
Minister of Treasury Paulson

US Federal Reserve issuing new $1 note

Recognising the effect the utterly disastrous Bush presidency has had on the US dollar, the US Federal Reserve is issuing a new $1 note depicting the likely reaction of the US's first president, George Washington, to the state of the US today.

NZ Herald online glitches

As of 08:00am, the NZ Herald's online edition does some deep digging into the past for its news today. As you can see in the image posted here, four of the stories under today's heading as political news are from either 1999 or 2001. The content is amusing if only because the Herald has nice things to say about Helen Clark. Haven't seen any copy like that for a while. Maybe they outsourced the sub-editing to Lindsay Perigo.

08:22 - Still there.
