Poor urban design

You have to wonder who is to blame for the complete, utter mess that is the North Shore , Albany in particular. The roads are designed to be bottlenecks. There can be no other explanation. Everyone coming from Birkenhead, Beach Haven is funnelled onto Glenfield Rd and at 8am, they then queue for 20 minutes to get from Manuka Rd to Sunrise Rd - about 1 km.

The business park bounded by Constellation and Rosedale only has 3 roads in or out. There are thousands of people working in there. Parking is allowed on both sides of Apollo Rd, so if someone wants to turn into a driveway and can't get in immediately, everyone behind them (20, 50, 100 vehicles?) has to stop and wait until they do get in...and people with a green light several hundred metres back can't turn into the road at all. At 5:10pm the other day, I was attempting to get through a roundabout at Apollo and Arrenway where cars were parked all around it due to congestion at the lights at Constellation and Apollo as people waited to turn right.

There is no residential development, so after 6pm the area becomes an empty wasteland - a burglar's heaven.

The rest of Albany is just as bad. There is no centre to it. It's littered all over the landscape with little apparent thought given to how the whole fits together. Walking anywhere is a trip across vast open spaces with little or no shelter and often no footpath.

I could go on, but won't. Albany is an example of how not to build a new urban area....and construction is still underway.
