Eco-coffins burn too fast, make too much ash

Seems the new eco-friendly cardboard coffins (with oak veneer) result in too much ash and burn too fast to safely close the furnace door, according to the operators of crematoria in Christchurch.
She said the coffins left a "tremendous amount of fly ash" which didn't combust and settled among the remains of deceased people "like a tacky attachment".

"It is a sensitive issue and we must take care to return ashes to the family to our satisfaction."
Understandable, really. You wouldn't want to lift the lid on Uncle John and have the contents look like the remains of a soggy backyard bonfire. It's ok to bury them, though.
