"D C Madam" Dead: Suicide or Murder?

Been reading US news today.....

Someone had to say it. May as well be me. Get it out of the way. Some may argue, but I do tend toward the skeptical end of the conspiracy scale. I need at least some seriously solid evidence to hang a good theory on before I'll sign up. I will make it clear a theory is a theory and not assert it as fact. Speculation isn't confirmation. It's speculation. No more and no less.

This story is perfect fodder for any person who suspects the powerful are willing to kill to keep their secrets or exact payback. That never happens, right?

The "D C Madam", Deborah Jeane Palfrey, was yesterday found hanged in a shed next to her mother's house in Florida. Police have said it was a suicide.

On one level, a suicide would be understandable. She was convicted on April 15th and was facing up to 55 years in jail. That seems an absolutely absurd amount of time for the 'crime' of running what in New Zealand or Ontario, Canada and many other places, is a perfectly legal business: an escort service. Refer to my earlier blog entry about President Bush and murder. He's still in office and not even under investigation for lying about WMD in Iraq and invading the place illegally, killing thousands.

Clearly such heavy penalties are no deterrent to the crime Palfrey was convicted of, but such extreme sentences do appear to act as a deterrent to completing the natural span of one's life once convicted.

At the time of her death, Palfrey was out on bail and wasn't due to be sentenced until July 24th, so one might wonder why she was in such a hurry to end it all.

Her death seems all the more odd because only two days ago she was reported as intending to subpoena her former clients to testify in her defence. Some of them she had already named. One of them was Bush's worldwide leader of his campaign against.....wait for it......prostitution. He's resigned but appears to not be facing 55 years in jail. Hmmm.

Now she's dead. Very neat and tidy. Perfect timing. Just two days after threatening to drag her clients into court. Maybe she really did kill herself, though why she was in such a hurry when jail was at least two months away seems odd. We may never know for sure. These things happen all the time. Palfrey is the second person involved in this scandal to end her life.
